At an eighteen-branch retail chain, IP camera systems, recording management and central alarm monitoring were integrated, and in-store losses came down markedly.
The customer
A retail chain selling fast-moving consumer goods, with eighteen branches across different regions of Türkiye. Average daily footfall of around 850 people per branch.
The situation
The existing analogue camera system in the stores had grown outside any standard over the years, leaving each branch with a different brand of recorder and cameras at different resolutions. When an incident occurred, the footage had either already been overwritten or the image quality was not good enough to serve as evidence.
The rate of loss and theft had been rising steadily for two years. Store managers collected incidents into weekly reports and the centre only saw them at month end, which made preventive action impossible.
What was done
The existing infrastructure was removed across all branches and standardised on 4 MP IP cameras with one NVR per branch. At high-risk points — the till line, the stockroom entrance, the front of the chillers — cameras with onboard analytics were added, and line-crossing, loitering and unauthorised-area analytics were commissioned.
Footage is retained locally at the branch for thirty days, while critical event triggers — movement during the night, till access outside opening hours, the panic button — are passed live to the Arbek alarm monitoring centre. Under the agreed protocol the central team contacts the branch manager first, then the chain’s loss prevention lead, and where necessary brings in the security company.
Every branch became visible from a single video management dashboard, and the loss prevention team can reach post-incident footage within seconds, tagged and timestamped. Reporting became automatic and daily rather than waiting for month end.
Results
- In-store loss and theft fell by 62%.
